Walking Is As Good As Jogging For Heart Health
A study by Duke University Medical Centre showed that brisk walking is as good for your heart as jogging.
The study included 133 middle-aged overweight and obese people who did not exercise. They were separated into groups, and one of the groups was told to walk briskly 12 miles per week and another to jog 12 miles per week.
At the end of the study, researchers measured the fitness level - the peak oxygen consumption. People who consume oxygen more efficienly have lower risk of heart disease.
All people in the study who exercised showed improvement on the oxygen consumption test. There was no difference in the improvement between those who walked 12 miles a week and those who jogged 12 miles a week. Walkers and joggers got the same heart benefits.
