Reduce Fat Intake The Easy Way
Believe it or not, eating some fat is necessary. Fat is an important source of energy and is actually the fuel our organism need in order to be fully functional. Fats provide fat soluble vitamins A, D, E and K to our body and can also make food taste better, if added in cooking.
But it is a known fact that cholesterol and fats, when taken in excess, can cause harm to your body. They can cause problems like heart diseases, not to mention that they are among the main causers of gaining weight. This is the reason why most of the doctors recommend a diet that is low in fat and cholesterol. Here are some tips on how to decrease your intake of fats without affecting the taste of your favorite food items.
Take for example the ordinary butter. You use it when cooking; you’d eat it with almost everything. You can’t imagine yourself without eating butter, even if you know that it is full of fats. If you didn’t find out up to now, there are plenty of product substitutes for butter on the market, most of them having the same taste, but much healthier nutritional properties. And if you have tried butter substitutes back a few years ago and didn’t like them, then it is time to check the market again, as there are some which really taste good and flavorful. Chicken broth is a well known substitute for butter and for milk also. In fact, you could try it out the very next time you cook mashed potatoes!
Say no to red meat! Eat chicken instead. It is healthier, it tastes good, and the possibilities for cooking different chicken dishes are endless: you can have it grilled; you can have it roasted, not to mention chicken stir fry or chicken burgers. Nobody says that you cannot have a nice juicy steak once in a while, but you should make a habit from substituting red meat with chicken as it is a lot healthier.
Replace butter or lard with cooking spray. There is a large variety of cooking sprays on the market, both for baking as well as for grilling. Like all other butter substitutes, the cooking sprays taste just as good as the original ingredient but they have the advantage of cutting down on the excessive fat in your fried foods. It will take a wile to accommodate with it, but the effect of using cooking sprays will be satisfactory, as you will feel better after eating something that is not cooked with butter or lard.
Choose soy milk to regular milk. People are reticent when they hear about soy milk and tend not to buy it at all. Leave preconceptions aside and replace regular milk with soy milk, as it tastes really good and has the advantage of containing vitamins and minerals that are good for your body.
Eat more lean pork cuts. Just like chicken, some (but not all) pork cuts are “white meat”. Many people love pork because it is tasty and lean and it can be used in cooking a variety of dishes. It is a good substitute for red meat. If you use a little imagination when cooking, you will see that there are infinite ways of preparing pork dishes.
Lowering you fat intake is a very important matter. No matter how thin or fattish you are, excessive fat and cholesterol are not good for your health. Use just a few of the alternatives outlined above and you will start eating healthier while lowering your fat intake. You’ll be surprised to find out that low fat food remains tasty helping you lose some weight and feel better at the same time.
